Hi, I’m Alexis. I am 19 and have a healthy and handsome 2-year old son named Keegan. We are moving into our own apartment today. It’s the very first place that we have ever lived in and paid for! My job as a Nurse’s Aide is helping me provide a life for my son. I am working to finish my degree as an RN and taking night classes. I am thankful to have a network of family and friends to watch Keegan so I can go to class. My dream is to be a Labor and Delivery Nurse. I really want to help teen moms, just like me.

The life of Alexis and Keegan shows the impact The Sparrow’s Nest has on our community. Since 2014, The Sparrow’s Nest has offered open doors to homeless, pregnant, or parenting teen moms (under the age of 20) and their children. We give vulnerable teens a chance to take a step out of their circumstances and be wrapped in care and compassion. As a long term housing option for these precious families we offer wrap around services to help them move toward a place of self-sufficiency. We work tirelessly to embrace the God-given dignity of all human life by empowering young moms and their children to realize their full potential.

We exist so that we can help moms, like Alexis, overcome the stereotypes and statistics that plague teen mothers. Did you know that teen mothers experience significantly higher rates of depression, both prenatally and post-partum, than their peers? 44% of teen mother’s experience a mental health challenge that stems from childhood and can impact the life of her child. If left untreated, this teen mother would be more likely to engage in substance abuse as a coping mechanism and the innocent child she gave life to is more likely to grow up in poverty, be abused, and continue the crippling cycle of health challenges. This one statistic can plague generations and is only one of the many that The Sparrow’s Nest stops.

This work is a calling and it takes time, talent, and treasure to achieve. These 3 T’s come not only from our staff but from amazing community members, like you. We have a fantastic Board of Directors who lead our organization and a dedicated volunteer team that supports us through mentoring moms like Alexis and hosting stellar events to raise money and awareness. In addition to these volunteer opportunities we have dynamic folks who celebrate Sparrow success by attending our events or making donations that help keep our events innovative and fun!

Our next event is the Sparrow Scramble on August 24, 2018. This will be our 7th year to host this life changing event! Now, “life changing” is a big promise for an afternoon of lunch, golf, dinner, and awards, but your presence at the Scramble will give a family like Alexis and Keegan a chance for a brighter future. Consider joining the Sparrow Scramble by volunteering, playing an 18-hole round of golf, hosting a team to play, or even marketing your company as a sponsor for the event. Many sponsor options include the ability to bring 4 or more golfers to the event. This is an excellent way to treat your clients! We have a few limited sponsor opportunities with the exclusive ability to host a table on the course which gets your brand right by the golfers! At these tables you can bring goodies and giveaways to give to the players.

On the day of the Sparrow Scramble, meander to The Links at Dardenne Prairie at 11:30 am. Immediately following, we will host a lunch for all golfers and have a shotgun start at 1:00 pm. Once you are driving onto the course you can expect to be heaped with delicious snacks and refreshing drinks before being enthralled with 6 hole contests! After you and your team have “par-teed” the way through the 18th hole you will be greeted by a Mexican food buffet and glittering awards for all those “eagles” you shot. All in all, we think you will have an amazing day and remember that Alexis and Keegan will be thanking you “fore” it all!
