Today is Sanctity of Life Sunday. This is the day chosen to remember the intrinsic value of all life. Sanctity of Human Life Sunday is held on the Sunday in January that falls closest to the day on which the Roe v. Wade and Doe v. Bolton decisions were handed down by the U.S. Supreme Court on January 22, 1973.

It’s a day where we can easily fall into the aggressive mindset of “us vs them.” We can spend this day arguing and furthering the divide between pro-life and pro-abortion. But in light of  Philippians 4:8 , my prayer today is for our mindset to be “us for them.” Don’t allow your heart to be hardened against those who are against you but pray blessings over them that their hearts would be turned toward the author of Life.

Rather,  spend today honoring Sanctity of Life Sunday in wonder of the absolute miracle of life. Praise God today rather than cursing others. Revel in His creativity. Marvel at His tenderness in starting Human Life within a mother’s body, then that same mother’s body can deliver Life, and then again that same mother’s body can provide sustenance for Life. Pray how you can be a Light of hope, grace, and mercy to women facing pregnancy outside of marriage. Pray how you can share the same hope, grace, and mercy to the pro-abortion community.

If at all possible (and if appropriate ;p) gently place your hand on the belly of a pregnant woman. Hold a baby today. Breathe in that sweet baby breath. Marvel at tiny fingernails and eyelashes. Gaze into eyes that have seen the face of God. Visualize the air entering those tiny lungs, the cells pulsing through tiny blood vessels, a heart beating 140 beats per minute. Allow yourself to imagine God so proudly molding his greatest creation ever, minding every single detail down to what foods this child will like to what will make this child giggle her whole life and then breathing His most Holy breath into her lungs for Life.

Set your mind on these things. Share what God reveals to you about His plan, His purpose, for these stunningly beautiful lives. For me, this is honoring Sanctity of Life.

 

Finally brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable-if anything is excellent of praiseworthy-think about such things.
