Happy Easter from The Sparrow’s Nest!

I go to church at Zion Lutheran in Harvester and we have an certain Easter tradition that we do.  On Easter morning the pastor greets the congregation by saying “Alleluia!  Christ is risen!” and  the congregation responds by saying “He is risen indeed!  Alleluia!”  Since we have all been kept from saying “alleluia” during the Lenten season, we say this phrase numerous times throughout the service and also in the following weeks.  In that spirit of His resurrection, The Sparrow’s Nest would like to wish everyone a Happy Easter season.

Just as Christ’s rising from the tomb has freed us from sin, death and the power of the Devil, we have a unique opportunity to help young women in our community to begin to free themselves from fear, uncertainty and loneliness.  Our efforts are quickly moving along to allow us to start doing what our mission statement says.  Specifically, to provide a CHRIST centered shelter and to educate homeless, pregnant and parenting YOUNG WOMEN by providing a wide range of SERVICES that empower them to make positive and healthy LIFE decisions for themselves and their BABIES.  We are almost there!  Our doors are almost opened!

None of this success, absolutely none of our momentum, could have been done without the deliberate, passionate and generous support from you, our donors and supporters.  Your tireless giving of your prayers, time, skills, labors and finances are what has put us on course to have our doors open early this Fall.  We just signed the purchase agreement paperwork for a house at the end of March that puts all the wheels in motion for a lot of other things to start happening.  Now is the time when we need to finalize our Policies and Procedures manual because we’ll need to be using them soon.  Now is the time to be seriously looking at candidates for house parents because we’ll really need them soon.  Now is the time to make sure we have all the day-to-day necessities to run our Nest because we’ll soon need the cribs, the diapers, the laundry detergent, the silverware and the pillow cases.  I don’t know how many days away we are from Day 1, but the countdown has indeed started and you have been the fuel that has gotten us so close!

From all of us at The Sparrow’s Nest, we would like to thank you for your unwavering support.  We appreciate all your $5 donations and your $500 donations.  We appreciate your Parties with a Purpose, your small group projects, church wide projects and here is the best thing.  Soon, very soon we won’t be able to say “we” thank you.  It will be the “moms and their babies” THANK YOU!

We hope to see you very soon for Day 1!

Happy Easter!
