“Expect great things from God. Attempt great things for God.” –William Carey
I first heard this quote a few months ago and it has stuck with me ever since. I have it written on my Bible for the daily reminder of why I am in this, why I am fighting the good fight, a war already won, yet the battle rages on.
What strikes me most about this quote is it doesn’t matter which way you read it. Follow along with me:
Expect great things from God. Attempt great things for God.
Attempt great things for God. Expect great things from God.
Expecting and attempting go hand-in-hand. Isn’t that the work we are doing here daily? We are expecting great things from God and at the same time attempting great things for Him.
Bear with me just a bit longer, I want to bring you back to something Carissa said in her last blog post:
I have come to accept most of the groundwork we lay at The Sparrow’s Nest I will never get to see the fruit. I understand in the most basic of terms we are a speed bump for a life that was starting to careen out of control, a life that was starting to lose its value and course. We step in at a critical time and offer just enough of a subtle change that an entire trajectory of life is altered.
The stepping in: attempting.
The change of an entire life trajectory: expecting.
As Carissa said, no, we may never see the fruit of the groundwork we lay here at The Nest, but we can still expect that God will and is doing a great work in each girl that walks through these doors. Even though we may not see the fruit of our work here, we can still attempt these great things for God.
In closing, I want to thank each and every one of who has and continues to play a part here at The Nest. Take it as encouragement, my friends, when we are offered the privilege and blessing of seeing a small taste of fruit God uses us in producing.
Much love,
Erica
