As you all know, 2020 has been a difficult year for The Nest. In one of the most difficult decisions of my life, we suspended operations in October due to having key leadership positions unfilled and having had to cancel several fundraising events due to COVID. Today, I wanted to give you an update on where we are on the road to reopening.

During its meeting in October, the Board had a strategic planning session led by member Tony Bryan to lay out the Nest’s 3-year and 5-year plans. We believe that the goals we’ve set are a stretch but achievable with God’s grace and the right people in place.

Speaking of having the right people in place, the Board has been reviewing candidates for our open Executive Director position and we hope to have a new ED in place in December. Once we have the new ED in place, the Board will work with her or him to finish how to restructure the other key leadership positions. Part of the benefit of suspending operations is that the Board can use what we’ve learned during the first 7 years of operations to make the next 70 better. This will be the Board and new Director’s first and top priority.

When we have determined the positions that we need, we will begin to hire for the leadership positions that need to be filled. We will then be able to hire Family Coaches (our direct care personnel) and begin the required training they must have for our state license. Our goal is to have everything done and be fully reopened during the first quarter of 2021.

I appreciate your patience as we work towards reopening early next year. I know that 2020 has created a lot of shocks, not the least of which was our decision to suspend operations. It was certainly not how we were hoping 2020 would end but I and the Board feel that we have an excellent plan in place to grow Sparrow bigger and stronger than it was before.

I know that people still have questions and want to know more. You can reach out to the Nest on any of our social media channels and we’ll be glad to put you in contact with a board or staff member that will be able to answer them. But most of all, we’d like you to continue to pray for the ministry, the staff, and the board as we go on to the next chapter and a new beginning.
